Our Conductor - Philip LapathaPhilip Lapatha was born and raised in Winnipeg and has a strong passion for music education and the growth that happens for individuals and communities who invest in musical pursuits. He loves the dynamic of community building that is fostered by choral singing. Philip has conducted a broad range of choral groups: from a Japanese exchange-student choir, to a youth choir in Louisville Kentucky, to a core area inner-city choir in Winnipeg. He has enjoyed all of these experiences and he is excited to work with the EMYC community this fall! Philip has two Bachelor degrees – Music and Education and a Master’s degree. He is a choir and math teacher at Maples Collegiate and loves inspiring and being inspired by his students. Philip enjoys arranging choral music for the choirs he conducts, and his arrangements have been sung by EMYC, CMYC, Prairie Voices, Camerata Nova, Ecco Singers, and numerous high school choirs in Winnipeg. If he can ever get away from music, then tennis, disc-throwing, and playing Settlers of Catan are some ways Philip enjoys his free time. He is married to Kimberly Lapatha, a talented accompanist and teacher. Philip is thankful to his parents for the piano lessons in his early years and the continued support through life’s musical journeys.
